Welcome to Reading City of Sanctuary
Reading City of Sanctuary is a small local group operating in Berkshire and West Berkshire. We work with institutions, public services, and partners in the voluntary and community sector, to create a culture of welcome.
What we do
We are part of the national City of Sanctuary movement, and are committed to growing and strengthening the Streams of Sanctuary in Berkshire and West Berkshire. Our activities include:
- Awareness and Engagement – We run Sanctuary awareness workshops, share information, and work with local partners to coordinate and support events that celebrate inclusion and welcome.
- Building and Supporting Partnerships – We work with a wide network of institutions across the faith, education, art, and public services sectors, helping them embed solidarity, compassion, and inclusion within their work.
- If they choose, we support them with towards a Sanctuary Award, which recognises their efforts to be welcoming and supportive to all, including those seeking safety.
- Communications and Signposting – We connect sanctuary seekers with opportunities, activities, and support by sharing information, signposting services, and producing regular updates and newsletters.
- Coordinating Collective Action – We bring local partners together to promote collaboration, share information, and strengthen the network of welcome across Berkshire and West Berkshire.
